US imposes 30 percent tariff on South African goods, prompting condemnation

The United States has imposed a 30 percent tariff on goods from South Africa, part of a broader action by President Donald Trump’s administration targeting 14 countries for alleged unfair trade practices, according to a report in France 24. South African President Cyril Ramaphosa condemned the move, calling it a “misinterpretation of data,” and warned of serious harm to the nation’s economy, as the US is a major trading partner. The US also threatened an additional 10 percent tariff on countries that work with the BRICS bloc.
