On Sunday, officials in the Taliban’s birthplace of Kandahar, in southern Afghanistan, issued an order prohibiting their employees from taking images or films of “living things”.
The province’s Department of Interior sent a letter to civil and military officials instructing them “not to take pictures of living things during your formal and informal gatherings, as it causes more harm than good”.
It said that audio or textual materials about official actions were permitted.
Islamic art often steers clear of depictions of people and animals, and some Muslims even abhor pictures of any living thing.
