He said that since Trump supported him in his 2022 Senate campaign, which he claimed he could not have won without, the two have been close.

Trump elected as Republican presidential nominee

Trump has been formally elected as the presidential nominee of the Republican Party.

As delegates from each state are declaring for the candidate who won the primary or caucus in their state, the delegates in favour of Trump crossed the majority-mark around 2:20 pm local time.

The process of declaration in which a roll call takes place and each state’s delegates make the declaration is completely ceremonial this time as Trump has won all primaries so far and has been the presumptive nominee since Nikky Haley withdrew in March.

Trump to be formally named Republican presidential nominee

Former US President Donald Trump will be declared as the Republican Party’s presidential nominee at the Republican National Convention.

Trump has been leading in polls against President Joe Biden, his Democrat rival, for months and the recent assassination attempt and frustration with Biden’s capacity to lead amid concerns over health and age is set to further bolster his standing.

Two days after he survived an assassination attempt, former US President Donald Trump got anointed as the presidential nominee of the Republican Party on Monday at the Republican National Convention (RNC) at Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Since March when Nikki Haley withdrew from the Republican nomination contest, Trump has been the presumptive nominee of the Republican Party and his anointment as the nominee was merely a formality. The long-running suspense over the Republican vice presidential nominee has also been broken as Trump named Vance as his running mate in a post on Truth Social even as the RNC was underway.

Hours ahead of the RNC, Fox News had reported that Trump told the channel in an interview that he would name his running mate on Monday. The channel reported that the choice for the running mate was down to three candidates: Senator JD Vance of Ohio, Senator Marco Rubio of Florida, and Governor Doug Burgum of North Dakota, according to Fox News.

The RNC comes at a time when Trump has emerged stronger than ever from an assassination attempt. His defiant photo with pumped fist and bloodied face has been flashed all across the world and have rallied his supporters. He not only faces a surge of sympathy but is also bolstered by the frustration of supporters and party members from President Joe Biden’s inability to convince of his physical and mental capacity to lead the nation.
