Two men from Telangana were killed and another was injured in an attack at a Dubai bakery, where they worked. According to the victims’ families, the attacker was a Pakistani national who shouted religious slogans during the incident.
Ashtapu Premsagar (35), from Soan village in Nirmal district, was killed with a sword on April 11, his uncle A Poshetty told PTI. The incident happened at the bakery where he worked. Premsagar had been working there for the past five to six years and had last visited his family two years ago.
Victim’s family in distress, seeks government help
Premsagar is survived by his wife and two children. Poshetty said that his family, who are in a poor financial condition, have not yet been informed about his death. His uncle has urged the government to help bring his body back to India and support the family.
Another man, Sagar, was injured in the attack and is currently in hospital, his wife Bhavani said.
Union Ministers react, G Kishan Reddy speaks to EAM Jaishankar
Union Minister G Kishan Reddy said the second victim was Srinivas from Nizamabad district. He expressed grief over the incident and said he had spoken to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, who assured help in bringing the bodies back to India.
“Deeply shocked by the brutal killing of two Telugu youth from Telangana in Dubai, Ashtapu Premsagar from Nirmal district and Srinivas from Nizamabad district. Spoke to Hon’ble External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar ji on the matter and he has assured full support to the bereaved families, and the urgent repatriation of the mortal remains,” Reddy said in a post on X.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) will also work to ensure the delivery of speedy justice in the matter, he said while thanking Jaishankar for his help.
Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay Kumar expressed his sadness over the killings and said he had spoken to MEA officials. He added that Union home ministry officials were in contact with them.
“Deeply saddened by the tragic killing of Shri Ashtapu Prem Sagar and Shri Srinivas, two workers from Telangana, who were attacked by a Pakistani national at Modern Bakery LLC in Dubai on April 11,” he wrote on X.
