Rishabh Pant equals MS Dhoni record with century on Test comeback
Rishabh Pant made a triumphant return to Test cricket on Saturday with a century against Bangladesh in Chennai
Pant smashed 13 fours and four sixes at Chepauk, bringing up his sixth Test hundred in 124 deliveries
Pant stitched a massive 167-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Shubman Gill, who remained unbeaten on 119, as India set Bangladesh an improbable 515-run target
Pant equalled MS Dhoni’s record for most centuries by an Indian wicketkeeper-batter in the process though he has taken fewer innings (58) for his six tons compared to ‘Captain Cool’ (144)
Pant still has a long way to go before he can catch up with Adam Gilchrist, the leading run-scorer among wicketkeepers in Test cricket with 5,537 runs
Pant, however, has scored more runs after 34 Test appearances (2,419) than Gilchrist did at a similar stage of his career, the Australian having scored 2,282 runs after as many matches
