Vice presidential elections 2025: Fast facts on CP Radhakrishnan and B Sudershan Reddy

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led NDA has fielded CP Radhakrishnan as the vice-presidential candidate. He has been serving as the Governor of Maharashtra since July.

Born in 1957 in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruppur, he completed his studies from Chidambaram College in Coimbatore with a degree in BBA.

Previously, he served as the Governor of Jharkhand from February 2023 to July 2024. He also held additional charge as the Governor of Telangana and Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry between March and July 2024.

Having twice been elected to the Lok Sabha from Coimbatore, Radhakrishnan is a veteran BJP leader who also previously served as the Tamil Nadu BJP state president.

An enthusiastic sportsperson, Radhakrishnan’s passions included table tennis, where he was a college champion, as well as long-distance running, cricket, and volleyball.

The INDI Alliance is championing former Supreme Court Justice B Sudershan Reddy. He was born in 1946 in Andhra Pradesh. Reddy enrolled as an advocate with the Bar Council of Andhra Pradesh in December 1971 and practised writ and civil matters in the Andhra Pradesh High Court.

Between 1988 and 1990, Reddy was a government pleader in the Andhra Pradesh High Court. He also had a short stint as an additional standing counsel for the Centre in 1990.

He was appointed a permanent judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court in May 1995 and later elevated as Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court in December 2005.

On January 12, 2007, he was appointed to the Supreme Court of India. He held this position for over four years, retiring on July 8, 2011.

Reddy also worked as legal adviser and standing counsel for Osmania University.
