Russian President Vladimir Putin will visit India on December 4–5 for a state visit that New Delhi describes as a chance to review bilateral progress and chart the future of the India-Russia partnership. This will be Putin's first trip to India since 2021 and comes against the backdrop of the nearly four-year-long Russia–Ukraine war and fresh US tariffs imposed on India for buying discounted Russian oil. Putin and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the 23rd India–Russia Annual Summit. From defence and energy to space and payments, the partnership remains resilient, and next week, New Delhi will put this “special and privileged strategic partnership” on full display.
