Why is Mars So Red? Scientists Have a Rusty Revelation! | Firstpost America | N18G

For years, scientists believed Mars’ signature red hue came from dry, lifeless rust. But new research suggests the planet may have oxidised with the help of water—meaning Mars was likely wetter for much longer than we thought. By recreating Martian dust in a lab and analysing spacecraft data, researchers found that a water-containing mineral called ferrihydrite might be responsible for the planet’s iconic colour. If true, this discovery reshapes our understanding of Mars’ past, its climate history, and—most excitingly—its potential for ancient life. Now, scientists are racing to bring Martian dust back to Earth to uncover the full story. Watch the video to know more.
