South Sudan: President Fires 2 Vice Presidents, Spy Chief in Latest Shake-up | Firstpost Africa | N18G
South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir has fired his two vice presidents as well as the nation’s spy chief in the latest reshuffle in the government, which was formed after a peace deal in 2018. The dismissals were announced in a series of decrees without giving a reason. Experts believe Kiir’s latest move to shake up is aimed at consolidating his power within the ruling party, ahead of the long-delayed elections which are expected to be held next year. This is also not the first time that the President has reshuffled government officials. In December, he had purged the head of the country’s military as well as the police chief. In October last year, he had dismissed his national security service head. Is this move really to strengthen his position or is aimed at deciding his successor? Watch now to know more.
