The UK's decision to build its first small modular nuclear reactors at Wylfa has triggered a sharp reaction from the Trump administration. Prime Minister Keir Starmer confirmed that three Rolls-Royce SMRs will be developed in north Wales, marking a major step in Britain's plan to boost clean energy and strengthen nuclear manufacturing. Despite the backlash, the UK insists the move supports sovereign capability and long-term energy security. The project promises thousands of jobs, quicker construction and future-focused technology, while leaving open the question of future US-UK nuclear cooperation.
