Paul Ingrassia, President Donald Trump's nominee to lead the US Office of Special Counsel, has withdrawn after reports of racist and offensive text messages. According to Politico, Ingrassia described himself as having a "Nazi streak," called Martin Luther King Jr. Day "the seventh circle of hell," and used an Italian slur targeting Black people. Most shockingly, he wrote: "Never trust a Chinaman or Indian. NEVER." His nomination faced growing opposition from Senate Republicans, and the Zionist Organization of America withdrew support. Ingrassia had also been investigated for alleged misconduct with a female colleague. His lack of experience and extremist views left him with no path to confirmation.
