The Trump administration has announced an immediate pause on worker visas for commercial truck drivers. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the move follows a crash in Florida involving an Indian-origin driver accused of killing three people and entering the U.S. illegally. Florida’s Lieutenant Governor escorted the suspect after his arrest in California, sparking political clashes with Governor Gavin Newsom. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy reiterated that all truck drivers must meet English-proficiency rules. Foreign-born drivers make up 18 percent of the U.S. trucking workforce, with many from Latin America, India and Eastern Europe. The suspension has already raised tensions with Mexico.
