President Donald Trump defended his economic record in a speech to McDonald’s franchise owners, arguing that his administration stabilised prices and restored “normal” inflation levels. He blamed former President Joe Biden for the previous inflation surge while highlighting new, cheaper fast-food menu options as evidence affordability is improving. Despite Trump’s optimism, inflation has edged back up to 3%, and polls show most Americans feel he has fallen short on affordability. The president touted recent policy moves, including lowering duties on food imports and proposing tariff-funded rebate checks, but economists point to deeper structural issues driving persistent financial insecurity across the country.
