A federal ICE raid on Canal Street in New York City turned chaotic Tuesday afternoon, as dozens of agents targeted vendors selling counterfeit goods. Protesters quickly surrounded officers, chanting "ICE out of New York" and attempting to block arrests. Federal agents, some in combat gear and with a BearCat tactical vehicle, responded with pepper spray and batons, detaining multiple vendors and protesters. Estimates suggest that 15–40 vendors were arrested, along with at least two locals who were protesting the operation. NYC officials, including Mayor Eric Adams, emphasised the city's non-involvement, while political leaders criticised the raid as aggressive and politically motivated. Tensions in Chinatown remain high following the operation.
