Tensions are surging in the Caribbean as US President Donald Trump sends the world's largest warship, the USS Gerald R. Ford, into Latin American waters — a move that Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro calls "the greatest threat in a century." The Pentagon says the deployment targets drug traffickers, but critics see it as a prelude to conflict. Britain has meanwhile paused intelligence-sharing with Washington over concerns the US is conducting unlawful boat strikes that have already killed 76 people. As both nations mobilise forces and trade threats, the region braces for what could become the most dangerous military standoff in decades.
