The US government has reopened after a record 42-day shutdown, the longest in American history. The closure, which disrupted federal operations, strained millions of families, and halted key services, ended after Congress passed a short-term spending bill backed by Republicans and several Democratic senators. President Donald Trump swiftly signed the measure, blaming Democrats for the shutdown while promising to “make America affordable again.” The bill funds the government through January 30, restoring programs like SNAP benefits, air travel operations, and national parks. While the agreement offers temporary relief, it sets the stage for another funding showdown in Washington.
