Thousands of protesters flooded Belgrade, Serbia, forming a human chain around the bombed-out former Yugoslav Army headquarters to oppose a new law allowing Jared Kushner's firm, Affinity Global Development, to redevelop the site into a $500 million luxury complex. The government of President Aleksandar Vucic passed legislation fast-tracking the project despite opposition outrage, heritage concerns and an ongoing investigation into alleged forgery of documents that stripped the site's protected status. Protesters accuse Vucic of erasing national history to please Trump and Washington, while officials claim the deal will attract investment. The protests mark a growing challenge to Vucic's increasingly controversial rule.
