Iran launched nearly 200 missiles, including hypersonic weapons for the first time, targeting Israel's three military bases. Most of these missiles were intercepted by Israel's defence systems. However, the attack forced about 10 million Israeli citizens into underground bomb shelters. The Iranian military said the airstrikes were in response to the recent killings of Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah in Lebanon, Hamas' political chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, and an Iranian general. Meanwhile, Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed that Tehran will pay the price for the latest attack. The US has extended full support to Israel and President Joe Biden said the Pentagon helped Israel intercept the Iranian missiles.
