Peru’s capital, Lima, has erupted in chaos as thousands take to the streets protesting interim President Jose Jeri’s newly formed government. Police fired tear gas to disperse demonstrators, leaving one person dead and over 100 injured. The protests organised by youth groups, unions, and civil society erupted days after former president Dina Boluarte’s ousting. Protesters accuse Heri of corruption, incompetence, and failing to address rising crime and extortion. Many demand the dissolution of Congress and a new constitution. Heri, who denies past assault allegations, faces mounting pressure as Peru’s political crisis deepens and public anger boils over nationwide.
