Chad to Hold Presidential Elections in a Bid to End Military Junta Rule

The Central African nation of Chad has announced that it will host Presidential Elections starting May to transition to civilian rule. Military Junta leader General Mahamat Idris Deby who came to power in 2021 wants to end military rule by October. However, he will contest in the Presidential Elections after the constitution was amended in December 2023 to allow military leaders to contest in elections.
