A 21-year-old Indian national living illegally in the U.S. has been charged in connection with a fiery semi-truck crash that killed three people in Southern California. The driver, identified as Jashanpreet Singh, was arrested for gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated after his 18-wheeler slammed into slow-moving traffic on a San Bernardino County freeway, according to U.S. media reports. Officials say Singh entered the United States illegally in March 2022 through California’s El Centro Sector. He was detained by Border Patrol but later released under the Biden administration’s “alternatives to detention” policy, which allows migrants to await hearings inside the country.
