A man suspected of carrying out a deadly shooting at Brown University and the killing of an MIT professor has been found dead after a multi-day manhunt across the northeastern United States. Authorities say the suspect, 48-year-old Portuguese national Claudio Manuel Neves Valente, died by suicide inside a storage unit where two firearms were recovered. Investigators say he entered the United States through the Diversity Visa, or DV-1, programme and became a permanent resident in 2017. In response, the Trump administration announced an immediate pause of the DV-1 lottery, arguing the programme poses security risks. The initial attack at Brown killed two students and wounded nine others during an exam session. Days later, an MIT physics professor was shot dead at his home, prompting nationwide scrutiny of immigration and campus security policies.
