Uganda is set to host Africa’s first artificial intelligence “factory” through the Aeonian Project, a hyperscale, renewable-powered computing hub. Spearheaded by Synectics Technologies with support from NVIDIA and international partners, the project aims to keep African data and computing power on the continent while accelerating AI development relevant to local needs. At its core is a 10MW sovereign supercomputer, supporting healthcare, education, life sciences, and research. The facility uses river water for cooling, recycles heat, and connects to a 2,500 km fiber-optic network linking Uganda to Kenya and Tanzania, providing global connectivity. The initiative positions Uganda as a regional technology hub.
