Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, 81, has launched his bid for a seventh term, setting the stage for a showdown with his long-time rival, 43-year-old pop star-turned-politician Bobi Wine. Museveni, who has been in power for four decades, was cleared to run in the 2026 elections after a constitutional amendment in 2017 removed the presidential age limit. Wine, whose candidacy was also cleared, has accused Museveni's government of ruling at "gunpoint" and has been arrested numerous times. In the last election in 2021, Wine accused Museveni of ballot stuffing and fraud, leading to protests that resulted in the deaths of at least 54 people.
