Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan has been sworn in for another term after a controversial election marked by deadly protests, an internet blackout, and allegations of fraud. The electoral commission declared her the winner with 98% of the vote, while the opposition CHADEMA party rejected the results as “illegitimate.” Rights groups and the United Nations have expressed alarm over reports of violence, mass arrests, and hundreds of deaths during the unrest. As Dar es Salaam remains under lockdown, the government continues to deny the use of "excessive force".
