Three Members of Parliament from South Africa’s Democratic Alliance (DA) were attacked in Cape Town on Tuesday (August 19), highlighting the country's severe crime problem. Ian Cameron, along with two colleagues from the police committee, was returning from a work trip when their vehicle was ambushed in Philippi. The attackers used bricks to smash the car’s windows, injuring Cameron and one of his colleagues. In self-defence, Cameron used his licensed firearm, injuring one of the assailants. Following the incident, police arrested two teenagers, aged 16 and 18, on charges of attempted murder and attempted hijacking, with a third suspect still at large. The DA condemned the attack, stating it underscores how "out-of-control crime" is in the country.
