South African President Cyril Ramaphosa is on a three-nation visit to Southeast Asia, a strategic effort to bolster economic and political ties with the region. This push for diversification comes amid strained relations with the United States following the return of the Trump administration. Ramaphosa began his tour in Indonesia, marking his first state visit to the country. He met with his Indonesian counterpart, Prabowo Subianto, in Jakarta, where discussions focused on enhancing trade, investment, and defence ties. The second stop was Vietnam. During Ramaphosa's visit, the two countries elevated their bilateral relationship to a strategic partnership. The South African President will conclude his Asia tour with a working visit to Malaysia from October 25 to 28. Ramaphosa is set to attend the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur as a Guest of the Chair.
