The first-ever G20 Summit on African soil concluded in Johannesburg on September 23 with South Africa hailing it as a turning point for the continent and the Global South. In an unprecedented move, world leaders reached an early consensus on a 122-point joint declaration, despite the boycott by US President Donald Trump. The declaration prioritised multilateral cooperation, inclusive growth for developing nations, climate action, debt relief for poorer economies, and targeted support for Small Island and Least Developed States. South Africa used its presidency to push food security, industrial growth, energy transition, and digital access to the top of the agenda.
