In Somalia’s breakaway region, Somaliland, many people are convinced that the United States is poised to become the world’s first country to recognise Somaliland’s independence under Trump 2.0. Reports suggest that many Somalilanders have called Trump their saviour and are urging him to recognise the self-declared republic. Somaliland had declared unilateral independence from Somalia in 1991. Since then, it has not gotten any international recognition and Somalia still considers it a part of its territory.
