Authorities in Senegal have intercepted over 100 migrants attempting the dangerous Atlantic crossing to Europe, highlighting the ongoing crisis of irregular migration. The group of young men from neighbouring Gambia was found adrift in a long wooden fishing boat without an engine, having been at sea for five days. This incident underscores the extreme risks migrants face, including thirst, seasickness, and the constant threat of their overcrowded and ill-equipped vessels breaking down or sinking. The perilous journey, often fueled by economic hardship and political instability, has led to thousands of deaths in recent years, with many migrants attempting to reach Spain's Canary Islands.
