Fresh protests erupted in Cameroon after its 92-year-old President Paul Biya secured an eighth term in office. Hundreds of protesters hit the streets in parts of Cameroon to oppose Biya’s victory. The demonstrators carried out rallies, torched piles of debris, and clashed with security forces in the country’s economic capital, Douala, and opposition leader Issa Tchiroma Bakary’s hometown, Garoua ahead of election results. Earlier, the agitations staged in anticipation of Biya’s win turned deadly after a crackdown from security forces killed at least four people. The demonstrations erupted after Tchiroma rejected Biya’s victory and called for protests against the "rigged" vote.
