Nile Row: Ethiopia Inaugurates GERD Amid Opposition from Egypt, Sudan | Firstpost Africa

Ethiopia has officially inaugurated the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), hailing it as a monumental achievement for the entire African continent. The multi-billion-dollar dam on the Blue Nile is Africa's largest and is designed to more than double Ethiopia's electricity capacity, bringing power to millions who currently live without it. Fully self-financed, the project is a source of immense national pride for Ethiopians, who see it as a symbol of progress and a better future. However, the dam's inauguration has done little to ease tensions with downstream nations, particularly Egypt and the Sudan, which rely heavily on the Nile's waters.
