Morocco has made a major gold discovery in the Guelmim region, identifying 34 high-grade quartz veins with gold concentrations up to 30 g/t. Currently producing just over 100 kilograms annually, Morocco is a minor player in Africa’s gold market, far behind leaders like Ghana, South Africa, Mali, and Sudan. Preliminary estimates suggest the new deposits could yield 3–5 million ounces, potentially elevating Morocco into the continent’s top ten producers.
