Massive anti-government protests have engulfed Madagascar, with young people leading demonstrations in the capital, Antananarivo, over persistent water and power cuts. The unrest, which began last Thursday, turned violent over the weekend, with clashes between protesters and security forces, reports of looting, and property damage. At least five people have reportedly died, though official figures remain unconfirmed. Demonstrators, many wearing black and symbolic straw hats, blocked roads and demanded action from the government. President Andry Rajoelina sacked the energy minister and condemned the violence, but protesters say this is insufficient. The crisis highlights the island nation’s infrastructure challenges and growing public frustration.
