The United States has imposed new targeted sanctions on Sudan's Finance Minister, Gebreil Ibrahim, and the pro-army militia Al-Baraa Bin Malik Brigade (BBMB). The move comes as Washington accuses both entities of being "Islamist actors" with ties to Iran, allegedly working to obstruct a ceasefire and fuel the ongoing civil war. The sanctions against the Finance Minister are linked to his leadership of the Justice and Equality Movement, an armed group accused of widespread destruction, and his recent visit to Tehran. The BBMB militia is sanctioned for receiving training and weapons from Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and for committing atrocities. The conflict, now in its third year, has resulted in over a million deaths and millions displaced.
