Nigeria's Foreign Minister Yusuf Tuggar has said that the Trump administration's tariffs wouldn't significantly harm the country, citing Nigeria’s huge internal market with a population of 230 million people (expected to grow to 400 million by 2050) and its trade ties with India, China, and Brazil. Nigeria, under President Bola Tinubu's government, also stated it would not accept US deportees. This comes as other African nations like Eswatini, Ghana, Rwanda, South Sudan, and Uganda have agreed to accept migrants deported from the US, reportedly, to reduce the impact of Trump's hardline trade measures on them. Tuggar also emphasised that rich countries should approach trade with Africa based on mutual respect and focus on development, not merely securing natural resources.
