Kenya's President William Ruto delivered a forceful defence of his labour migration policy, insisting that foreign job opportunities are strengthening Kenya’s economy, expanding youth employment, and deepening international partnerships. Speaking in Nairobi at the 14th World Conference of the International Association of Refugee and Migration Judges on November 17, Ruto cited new labour agreements with Germany and Austria, ongoing talks with Qatar, and a billion-dollar rise in remittances. His remarks come amid mounting public concern over reports of overwork, exploitation, and mistreatment of Kenyan migrants abroad. Officials also warn that criminal networks are luring citizens with fake job offers, pushing some into forced labour or conflict zones.
