Ghana’s government has said that it will receive 40 more West African migrants from the US in the coming days. This announcement comes as Mahama’s administration faces mounting criticism and legal action over a controversial agreement with the Trump administration to accept West African migrants deported from the United States. Following the arrival of the first group of 14 deportees, 11 have reportedly sued the Ghanaian government for illegal detention. The deal has been described by critics as an attempt by the Trump administration to circumvent US immigration laws, as some of the deportees allegedly have legal protection against being sent back to their home countries due to risks of persecution or torture.
