Chad: President Deby Revokes Nationality of Two France-based Activists | Firstpost Africa

Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby has stripped two France-based activists, Charfardine Galmaye Saleh and Makaila N’Guebla, of their Chadian nationality, accusing them of colluding with foreign powers and engaging in activities “incompatible” with citizenship. Both are vocal critics of the government, with N’Guebla historically opposing Déby’s father, Idriss Déby. Under Mahamat Déby, Chad has intensified crackdowns on journalists and opposition figures, including those accused of ties with Russia. The country also ended its defense cooperation agreement with France in 2024, withdrawing 1,000 troops, and has sought new international partnerships, notably with Russia. Critics warn the measures undermine press freedom.
