Five appeals alleging electoral fraud have been lodged against Cameroon's presidential election, demanding the cancellation of the vote. The country's 92-year-old President, Paul Biya, is seeking an eighth term in the latest elections that were held on October 12. However, none of the appeals have been filed by President Biya's top rival, Issa Tchiroma Bakary, who has prematurely declared victory. Tchiroma has also called on Biya to concede, despite official results not being due until October 26. Tensions erupted into clashes between Tchiroma's supporters and security forces in Bafoussam and Douala, with police firing tear gas and arrests being made. Tchiroma, a former ally of Biya, has promised a detailed report of the regional vote counts. Analysts, however, have predicted Biya's victory in the election.
