Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni is being encouraged to step in as a peace mediator between the United States and Venezuela amid growing tensions over alleged drug trafficking operations. Reports suggest that John Ndabirano, a Ugandan delegate who observed Venezuela’s recent elections, urged Museveni to use his role as Chair of the Non Aligned Movement to promote dialogue and oppose military aggression. The appeal comes just as American forces carried out another strike near Venezuelan waters that killed six people on a suspected drug vessel. This latest attack marks the fifth incident in the Caribbean since September. The Trump administration maintains that these operations are part of a wider campaign targeting drug networks linked to the government of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.
