Why Kamal Haasan feels 'enough is enough'

After initially refusing to cut anything from his film Vishwaroopam, actor Kamal Haasan says there is the possibility some misinterpretation of Islam had crept into the film and he was working with the Muslim groups who had protested against its release to correct them.

"The concern is not entirely misplaced," the actor said, speaking to Rajdeep Sardesai in an exclusive interview on CNN-IBN.

According to him, since he is not an expert in Arabic language, there might be places where misinterpretation could have slipped in into his film.

"This is not purely an angry debate now. Most of them (the Muslim groups who have seen the film) are trying to help me now," he added.

According to him, the clerics have a problem because they are not accustomed to the medium of films and the language of cinema.

"The clerics are not used to seeing films. They are not used to the language. How do you expect someone who does not respect or love cinema to appreciate cinema?" he said.

He, however, said that he would always reach out to the Muslim fraternity with films, giving the example of Iran - a predominantly Muslim - populated country which has a vibrant film culture with filmmakers Makhmalbaf and Abbas Kiarostami.

But he did not regret saying 'enough is enough' - a comment that was interpreted as his extreme helplessness in the face of so many problems with his 100-crore pet project.

"I will say it again if I am pushed to the edge. I am running out of time. I am going to be 60. I can't be fooling around and trying to make films by waiting around," he said.

He clarified that if this situation is repeated then he would definitely have to leave his homeland and look for a place where he could pursue his art in peace. "This anger is many years old, younger to me but it is slowly  growing. If I am pushed again, what am I expected to do?" he added.
