Congress, Keshubhai conspiring against me: Modi

Chief Minister Narendra Modi said that the Congress was teaming up with Keshubhai Patel's Gujarat Parivartan Party to defeat him in the Assembly polls.

"There is something fishy going on to make Ahmed Patel, the chief minister of Gujarat," Modi said in an election rally at Rajpipla in Gujarat on Saturday.

Recently, Modi challenged Congress president Sonia Gandhi to announce the name of her political secretary Ahmed Patel as the chief ministerial candidate in the state.

“I dare the Congress party to announce that they want to make Ahmed Patel the chief minister of Gujarat,” Modi had told an election rally in Maninagar.

The poll fight heated up with the Congress fielding Shweta Bhatt, the wife of suspended IPS officer Sanjeev Bhatt, against Modi from the Maninagar constituency.

“My fight is to re-establish democracy in Gujarat,” Shweta Bhatt told reporters after filing her nomination papers.

This was the second instance where the spouse of crucial Modi critics have taken the poll path.

Jagruti Pandya, wife of slain Gujarat home minister Haren Pandya, is also fighting the polls on a Gujarat Parivartan Party ticket from Ellis Nagar constituency in Ahmedabad.

The state is voting on 13 and 17 December. The counting is scheduled on 20 December.
