Chinese President Xi Jinping held a high-stakes phone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump, during which Xi pressed for the return of Taiwan to China. He also stressed that the two countries should maintain momentum in bilateral ties. The call comes amid a recently reached trade truce between the world’s two largest economies following the Trump–Xi meeting in South Korea. As part of the agreement, the U.S. lowered tariffs on Chinese goods, while China eased restrictions on rare earth exports.
