Several governments are moving to restrict children’s access to social media. Australia became the first nation to ban under-16s from social media, leading to mass account deactivations. France has since passed legislation barring under-15s, backed by President Emmanuel Macron. Other countries including the UK, Denmark, Norway, Italy and China, are reviewing or enforcing age limits and screen-time controls. In India, Goa and Andhra Pradesh are examining similar measures. In the United States, a lawsuit against Meta, Google and TikTok could influence global regulation.
