US President Donald Trump has threatened to raise tariffs on South Korea from 15% to 25%, accusing Seoul’s parliament of failing to implement a trade deal signed last year. The agreement capped tariffs after a 25% levy imposed in April 2025, in exchange for $350 billion in South Korean investments in US strategic sectors. Seoul says legislative approvals are still underway. South Korean markets initially fell, and protests were reported in Seoul. The government says no formal notice has been received, and talks will continue. Similar tariff threats were recently made against Canada and European allies.
