Samsung benefitted from the AI boom as its sales in the last quarter increased by 20 per cent. However, its workers seem unhappy. They have called for an indefinite strike over pay structure and lack of vacation time. They have three clear demands - better pay, a better bonus structure and an additional day off. Samsung had performed terribly in 2023 as it had reported sharp losses. The company's overall operating profit dropped to a 15-year low. This was mainly due to the slow demand for its chips and devices. In 2024, the demand for semiconductors picked up, thus helping Samsung to recover its losses.
