A new investigation by Swiss research firm Public Eye has found added sugar in packaged baby cereals sold in parts of Africa. The Swiss group tested nearly 100 samples of Nestlé’s Cerelac, a cereal for babies aged six months and above. More than 90 per cent of the samples contained added sugar, with some packets showing up to 7.5 grams per serving. European versions of the product had no added sugar. Nestlé has rejected the findings, saying its products meet national and international standards. The company plans to shift to no-added-sugar Cerelac by the end of the year. The report comes amid past scrutiny of Nestlé’s nutrition practices.
