The Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has slammed deadly protests across the country. He warned that some actions by demonstrators amount to treason and terrorism. The protests began on Monday, August 25, over lavish perks for lawmakers and have left five people dead. In response, parliament has agreed to reduce lawmakers’ allowances, but student groups say the measures don’t go far enough. These are the biggest and most violent protests of President Subianto’s term.
