An island in Andaman and Nicobar could enhance India’s strategic deterrence against China. New Delhi has plans to develop “The Great Nicobar” into a shipping and tourist hub. Due to its strategic location, it could also be used to keep China in check on the high seas. But the plan is being opposed by India’s opposition party – the Congress. It claims the planned infrastructure upgrades at the Great Nicobar poses a “grave threat” to the Island’s indigenous communities and ecosystem. Palki Sharma tells you more.
